Quick answer: On The5ers Futures, ES and MES give different dollar exposure to the same index movement. A four-point stop represents $200 per ES or $20 per MES before costs. AUDIT provides 10% off the covered Futures purchase fee.

Code: AUDIT

Official facts checked: 6 October 2026. Contract capacity and a sensible trade budget are different numbers. This guide uses the $25K Day Trade account to explain that distinction with transparent examples.

Start with contract value rather than the account label

The firm's ES and MES explanation identifies ES at $50 per point and MES at $5 per point. Their minimum tick is 0.25 points, worth $12.50 and $1.25 respectively. Both track the S&P 500, but a different multiplier changes how much a move gains or loses.

For a planning calculation, multiply stop distance in index points by dollars per point and then by contracts. This is the gross movement to the intended stop, not a guaranteed maximum loss. Execution can differ, and commissions must be added separately.

Hypothetical positionStop distanceGross movement to stop
1 ES4 points$200
1 MES4 points$20
3 MES4 points$60
5 MES4 points$100
10 MES4 points$200

Ten micros recreate one mini's point exposure. Choosing micros only reduces exposure if the total quantity remains proportionately smaller.

Compare the proposed loss with remaining account room

The current Futures selector lists a $25K Day Trade evaluation with a 6% target, 4% EOD maximum-loss measure and capacity of two minis or 20 micros. Its one-time purchase fee is $59, with no activation fee shown.

At the initial balance, 4% is $1,000. That initial figure is not permission to spend the whole allowance. A four-point stop on two ES implies $400 before costs, equivalent to 40% of that initial amount. Five MES at the same distance imply $100, or 10%. These are arithmetic illustrations, not recommended risk settings.

The remaining room changes as the account evolves. Use the current account threshold shown by the platform. If only $180 remains, a $200 planned movement exceeds it before any cost or slippage adjustment, even though one ES fits the nominal contract ceiling.

Calculate a whole-contract budget

Suppose a trader independently sets a $75 gross movement budget for an example trade with a five-point stop. One MES represents $25 to that stop, so three MES use $75. One ES represents $250 and does not fit that hypothetical budget.

Example inputAmount
Chosen gross movement budget$75
Stop distance5 points
MES point value$5
Movement per MES$25
Quantity before reserving costs3 MES

If $75 is intended as an all-in budget, three contracts leave no reserve for fees or adverse execution. The practical next step is to reserve those costs before dividing by movement per contract, then round quantity downward to a whole contract. Never round upward just to make the planned trade large enough.

The purchase saving is a separate calculation

PlanSizeRegular price USDCodeDiscountSavings USDFinal base price USD
Day Trade Futures$25,000$59.00AUDIT10%$5.90$53.10

The calculation is $59 × 0.90 = $53.10. It covers the base purchase fee under the active offer, without an assumed second promotion, tax or separately billed service. A $5.90 purchase saving does not increase trading loss room by $5.90. Account objectives and the entry invoice are separate records.

This table intentionally uses the directly readable Day Trade fee. It does not import a seasonal Swing sale or an unconfirmed larger-account price into the example.

Keep execution and contract selection in the same journal

Record the account's current threshold, chosen instrument, stop distance, point value, quantity and cost reserve before evaluating the resulting trade. Afterwards, compare the planned movement with the actual net outcome. A difference can come from execution or fees; it is not automatically evidence that the point-value calculation was wrong.

Avoid using a wider stop merely to justify an arbitrary contract count. Work from the trade's actual invalidation point, then assess whether the account can accommodate the resulting position. If it cannot, skipping the trade is an available decision.

A smaller contract does not waive account rules

This calculation concerns position exposure, not qualification. Per-position consistency, session restrictions and payout conditions still matter. Read the linked account guide for those separate requirements. In particular, do not confuse the theoretical exchange trading day with the program's own Day Trade close requirement.

An example that fits a dollar budget can still be unsuitable because of program rules, market conditions or the trader's circumstances. The worksheet is a way to expose those decisions clearly, not a method for guaranteeing a pass.
